Set amongst the Nilgiri Mountains, is Coonoor, home to luscious flora and fauna, including some incredibly rare wildlife.
This is a place of beautifully scenic surroundings including the ‘Blue Hills’ (Nilgiri Hills), Catherine Falls and numerous private tea plantations, all of which can be seen from Dolphin’s Nose Viewpoint.
Coonoor is home to some incredibly rare species, such as the Black-and-rufous, Rusty-tailed and Nilgiri Flycatchers and White-bellied Shortwing. If you’re lucky, you’ll hear the loud call of the Nilgiri Laughing Thrush – a bird only found in this region.
Home to a thriving tea industry, huge private tea plantations surround the hills.
The Japanese style Sim’s Park houses over 1,000 species of plant and is home to an annual fruit and vegetable show in May.
Look out over the double cascades of the Catherine Falls and the blue of the Nilgiri Hills from Dolphin’s Nose Viewpoint, 10km away from Coonoor.
