Day 1: Arrive in Delhi

Upon arrival at Delhi International Airport, you will be welcomed by your Authentic India Tours representatives who will transfer you to your hotel for a 1 night stay.

The rest of the day is free to relax and enjoy the wonderful facilities of your luxury hotel or explore the local area.

Day 2: Delhi - Leh-Ladakh (3505 Meters Above Sea Level)

This morning you will be transferred to Delhi Airport, where you will fly to Leh-Ladakh. You will be met on arrival by your Authentic India Tours representative and transferred to your hotel.   

After a half-day at rest to acclimatise to the high altitude, you will be driven to Shanti Stupa, a Buddhist white-domed monument on a hilltop in Changspa. It was built in 1991 by Japanese monks to promote world peace. The day concludes with a visit to the 17th-century Leh Palace, which offers amazing views from the rooftop, followed by an evening walk around the local market. Then conclude the day in style with dinner at your hotel.

Day 3: Leh-Ladakh (Shey, Thiksey & Hemis Monastery)

Following a leisurely breakfast, we will drive to the statuesque Hemis Monastery, the largest and wealthiest monastery in Ladakh. Then we will head to Thiksey Monastery, which offers incredible views of the Indus valley from its lofty hillside location. Thiksey is known for its gigantic seated statue of the Maitreya Buddha and for its impressive Dukhang (assembly hall) housing hundreds of rectangular prayer books, stacked between wooden covers and bound in silk.

We will continue the drive through a series of chortens (another word for stupas – Buddhist monuments often containing relics) to visit Shey Palace the former summer residence of the King of Ladakh. After an exciting day of exploring, relax and unwind over dinner at your hotel in Leh.

Day 4: Leh-Ladakh - Ulley

After breakfast today, the tour continues to Ulley, visiting the Phyang, Likir and Alchi Monasteries en route. Alchi is one of the earliest monasteries built in Ladakh and dates back to the 11th century.

Later, we will continue the drive to Uleytokpo, a tiny village 70 km west of Leh, where you can get settled in at your new accommodation and end the day with dinner.

Day 5: Ulley - Lamayuru - Ulley

Today we drive to the fascinating village of Lamayuru, with its unusual moon-like landscape. We will venture high up in the hills to Lamayuru Monastery, the oldest in Ladakh. This fascinating 10th-century holy place is believed to have been a sacred site for the pre-Buddhist religion called Bon and is home to a selection of fine frescos, carpets and Tangkhas.

From the monastery, you can see amazing views over a green carpet of farming terraces. The complex includes one of the oldest libraries in the region, containing extensive books and other literature on the Tibetan Kagyupa Sect. We will also visit Rizong Monastery perched at the top of a rocky valley which is home to around 40 monks. The monastery is known as "the paradise for meditation" and is noted for its extremely strict rules and standards.

Day 6: Ulley - Leh-Ladakh

After breakfast, we will head back to Leh stopping at Basgo along the way to explore the half-ruined temples and castle that are the last reminder of its former royal precinct. This town on the banks of the Indus River was once an important cultural and political centre of Ladakh.

Once we leave Basgo, the tour returns to Leh-Ladakh where you will have some leisure time in your hotel along with a delicious dinner.

Day 7: Leh-Ladakh - Nubra (Cross Khardungla Pass)

Today’s drive to Nubra Valley will be a magical experience, as it will involve travelling on the highest motorable road in the world, the Khardung La Pass at a whopping 5,360 metres high.

Following that exhilarating journey, we will arrive in Hunder by the afternoon. After lunch, you can travel across the sand dunes by camel safari to explore Diskit and Hunder Village.

Diskit may be a modest village, but it is known as the commercial centre of Nubra and is home to the Diskit Gompa monastery on the surrounding hillside. The pretty Hunder Village is home to the small Chamba monastery, and a medieval watchtower offering fantastic panoramic views. After today’s adventures, return to your accommodation for dinner.

Day 8: Nubra (Ansa, Samstanling, Panamik and Yarab Tso)

After breakfast, we will drive to Sumur to visit the 140-year-old Samstanling Monastery, and then to Ansa to see its hilltop monastery. We will then head to Panamik village to see its hot water springs with steamy water gushing from under the ground. 

Next on the list is Yarab Tso, a small holy Lake between the Nubra Mountains.

In the evening we will drive back to Hunder where you can dine in the hotel and spend time relaxing under the stars.

Day 9: Nubra - Pangong (via Shayok)

Today’s journey takes you to Pangong via Shayok and onto Tang Tse and Spangmik (Pangong). Part of the road is uneven but it is a beautiful route. The road follows the Shayok River and climbs up a mountain before descending into Shayok village.

It takes less than an hour to reach picturesque Shayok, a large village surrounded by barren mountains. In the afternoon we will head to the breathtaking Pangong Lake. This shimmering body of water is 4300 metres above sea level, and you can while away the hours sitting by its beautiful banks or strolling around its shores.

Then it’s back to the camp for dinner, which you can enjoy whilst looking out over the lake.

Day 10: Pangong - Leh-Ladakh (via Chang La Pass)

If you can forfeit a lie-in, it’s worth getting up early in the morning to witness the spectacular sunrise at the lake. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before we start on the lofty drive to Leh via the 5,486 metre-high Chang La Pass.

After checking in to the hotel at Leh, your evening is free for shopping or to spend at your leisure.

Enjoy dinner and a final stay in Leh-Ladakh.

All good things must come to an end! You will be transferred to Leh airport with plenty of time to board your flight to Delhi.
