Day 1 - Arrive Cochin to Alleppey

Upon arrival at Cochin International Airport, you will be welcomed by your Authentic India Tours representatives who will transfer you to your hotel in Alleppey, the gateway to the backwaters of Kerala.

Day 2 - Alleppey

After breakfast, spend the morning strolling through the village streets, visiting local markets, temples and schools (which students reach by boat!), or even rent a canoe to get about under your own steam.

A perfect evening activity is a saunter through the dense paddy fields as the low sun reflects on the water surrounding you and the plentiful birds call out the end of the day.

Day 3 - Alleppey

Spend the morning at leisure taking in your tranquil surroundings before boarding your own private houseboat after lunch.

Sit back and relax as an expert crew steer you across the Kerala backwaters, catering to your every need. You will cruise down a network of coconut palm-fringed backwater canals and across the famous Vembanad Lake. As you drift past traditional villages and paddy fields, keep a look out for birds such as kingfishers, snake birds and herons.

Day 4 - Alleppey to Teekoy

After your leisurely breakfast on-board, disembark and meet your driver who will take you to Teekoy in the Western Ghats.

Once you arrive at Vanilla County and meet your hosts, you'll have some time to wander around the spice plantation, go bird-watching or visit the natural springs before a dinner of local specialties.

Day 5 - Teekoy

Today, you have the choice to spend time taking in the spectacular surroundings of Teekoy or making a short trip to visit the picturesque hill station of Vagamon. 

If you stay in Teekoy, you could take a dip in one of the natural springs, walk down to the village with your hosts, enjoy a tour of the grounds and plantation or even try the exceptional bird watching the area has to offer.

Vagamon lies untouched by any modern influences. The grassy hills, expansive pine forests, velvet lawns and overall mysticism of the place is a sight to behold. In Vagamon, you can hike the zig zagging paths up the hillside or the more adventurous can catch the most spectacular views while paragliding.

Day 6 - Teekoy to Munnar

After a leisurely breakfast, you can make your way to gorgeous Munnar, the Kashmir of Southern India.

Once you've arrived and settled in, you can take a relaxing evening stroll to stretch your legs and watch the sun set over the glorious lush hills.

Day 7 - Munnar

After breakfast, you have the opportunity to take a short day trek in the beautiful Letchmi Hills. 

From the height of 1420m above sea level, your trek will take you through the tea plantations, before reaching the ridge of the hill. Then you'll continue along the ridge, which offers beautiful views in every direction, abutted by tea plantations on one side and rocky mountain slope on the other. If the sky is clear, you might see the highest peak in South India, Anaimudi, and the famous reservoir of Idukki Dam.

You might choose to stop for a picnic lunch or light refreshments as you pass through more fabulous nature and coffee or cardamom plantations. This is a fantastic route to spot some of the endemic birds of the Western Ghats.

Day 8 - Munnar to Hillgrove

After breakfast, your driver will take you through the gorgeous Marayoor Sandalwood Forest to a brief stop in the Chinnar Wildlife Sactuary before continuing on to your destination of Mettupalayam.

Day 10 - Hillgrove - Ooty - Wayanad

Packed breakfast in hand, you'll be transferred to the famous Nilgiri Mountain Railway to catch the small passenger train at 7am. The train will take you winding through hills of lush greenery with unforgettable views at every turn.

Day 11 - Wayanad

One of the most exciting places to visit while staying in Wayanad are the Edakkal Caves, where you can see drawings carved into the cave wall dating back to roughly 6000 BCE. If that isn't eye-opening enough for one day, you could also stop by local traditional tribes, who benefit from controlled and carefully organised tourism. 

Alternatively, 127 bird species can be found in or close to the grounds of the Homestay, including the majestic Crested Serpent Hawk, so make sure you spend some time walking quietly through the trees.

After breakfast, you'll be taken South along the coast to Tellicherry. Like Nileshwar, Tellicherry is fairly unknown to the usual tourist, so you can experience the charms of a Keralan seaside town without the hubbub of tour operators.

Day 15 - Tellicherry

Wake early to join your host and walk down to the local fish market, a hive of morning activity. Afterwards, wander around the spice shops, beedi-making and handloom weaving units, where your capable host will be able to explain the local industries.

Or treat yourself to a lie-in and then visit the famous Parassinikadavu Temple and witness the rich Hindu ritual Theyyam.

Day 16 - Tellicherry to Cochin

After travelling by train from Tellicherry to the famous and historic port city of Cochin, you will be met on arrival and transferred to your hotel in the old town, Fort Cochin.

Day 18 - Departure Cochin
