The beautiful village of Lachung is the ideal destination for nature lovers to enjoy some wonderful flora and fauna. The glistening Lachung Chu river winds its way through the village, and all around you can see apple orchards, breath-taking waterfalls, snow-capped mountain peaks and sparkling streams. Trek through the Valley of Flowers, visit the small colourful monastery, or simply take a deep breath and relax as you absorb the stunning surroundings.
Just across the Lachung Chu river lies Lachung Monastery, perched high on a hill and framed by glorious apple orchards. This small but colourful monastery dates back to the early eighteenth century and hosts a famous mask dance each year at the end of December. Inside you’ll find exquisite murals, a two-storey prayer hall that features a porch with twin metal dragons and two heavy prayer wheels, and a statue of Guru Padmasambhava, one of the founding fathers of Tibetan Buddhism.
If you enjoy breath-taking and magical scenery, an excursion to Yumthang Valley, known as the Valley of Flowers, will be a real treat. This picturesque nature sanctuary offers spectacular views of snow-capped mountains, an abundance of flowers, hot springs and grazing yaks, as well as the gorgeous Teesta River winding its way through the lush meadows.
