Deogarh, Rajasthan

Between Udaipur and Jodhpur lies Deogarh, a quiet town surrounded by lakes, rocky hills and traditional villages. Far from the bustle of Rajasthan’s bigger cities, it offers a slower, more personal way to experience the region’s landscapes, heritage and hospitality.

Culture & Countryside

Deogarh’s centrepiece is its striking palace, home to generations of the local ruling family and a fine example of Rajput architecture. But the appeal stretches well beyond the town itself. The surrounding area is ideal for exploring by jeep or on foot, with winding country roads, scattered hamlets and open views across scrub and low hills.

Several lakes attract migratory birds in the winter months, and the historic metre-gauge railway that still runs through the area offers a nostalgic journey across viaducts and through tunnels, with excellent views of the countryside.

When to Visit

October to March is the best time to visit, when the days are cooler and the scenery is green and open. It’s an ideal season for walks, lakeside birdwatching and rural drives.

Where to Stay

Accommodation in Deogarh is characterful and personal. We recommend the Dev Shree, Deogarh, a refined family-run haveli on the edge of a quiet lake. With just a few individually designed rooms, warm hospitality from the owners and excellent home-cooked food, it offers a peaceful and authentic stay with strong local connections.
