Discover Mandawa

The town of Mandawa is known for its fort containing medieval frescoes, carvings and paintings, and its array of exquisitely painted havelis (mansions).

Places to visit in Mandawa

  • Mandawa Fort. Now a heritage hotel, the medieval-themed Mandawa Fort dates back to the 18th century and dominates the town. The fort contains a number of beautiful frescoes, paintings of Lord Krishna and ornate carvings. There is also a hall displaying paintings and antiques.
  • Havelis. Mandawa is nicknamed the “open art gallery” of Rajasthan due to its lavishly painted Havelis (mansions). These include the century old Sewaram Saraf Haveli, regularly appearing in Bollywood films, Gulab Rai Ladia Haveli, with blue washed walls and erotic scenes and Ram Pratap Nemani Haveli now the Vivaana Culture Hotel, where you’ll be staying during your visit. The artwork on the Goenka Double Haveli depicts Europeans wearing stylish hats and other Victorian finery, whilst the Murmuria Haveli blends east and west, with an image of Lord Krishna in an English courtyard with his cows.
