Temples, Drums and Dance

At the heart of the city is Vadakkumnathan Temple, an architectural masterpiece set in a circular green expanse. Visit Kerala Kalamandalam, the renowned arts academy, or browse local markets for temple jewellery, books, and handcrafted textiles. Time your visit for Pooram to see drummers and fireworks in an unforgettable spectacle of devotion and pageantry.

Tradition and Everyday Life

Despite its cultural richness, it retains its small-town charm. Locals gather at tea stalls, students cycle to classes, and life flows steadily between the sacred and the everyday.

When to Visit

October to March is ideal for cooler weather and exploring on foot. Visit in April/May for the Pooram festival, but book early as it gets busy!

Where to Stay

Choose from simple city hotels, boutique stays near the temple, or resorts just outside town for a quieter base. Neelambari, a riverside hideaway, combines the warmth of a homestay with the elegance of a boutique retreat.
