Periyar National Park, Kerala

Discover Periyar National Park

Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve offers you the chance of experiencing beautiful animals including (hopefully) elephants in the wild from the comfort of a covered boat without disturbing their way of life. More fearless travellers have the chance to experience the park on foot with a local guide, whose unique expertise in the area will make the trip doubly rewarding.

More a fan of flora than of fauna? Periyar also known as Thekkady is absolutely still worth a visit, with its assorted tea, spice, coffee and rubber plantations. Not only can you take a walk around the neatly arranged fields themselves, you can also participate in a guided tour of the treatment plant of the chosen crop. This is the best way to learn about the cycle of tea, for example, from planting to drinking – and of course you can sample the product with newfound appreciation at the end of the tour, while you look out over the endless rows of camellia plants on the hills in front of you. Tea never tasted so good.
